Outdoor Learning
|
03 March by Adrian Massey |
Classes 3,4 and 5 have been using the expertise of Helen Blackburn with Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants to have their learning sessions outside. The children (and Staff) have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and we are grateful to Helen for coming along (fresh from Mount Kilimanjaro) to help us in this work.
Mor designs have been adding the completing touches to the 'Secret Garden' for us and we hope to have this project finished for Easter. The mosaic tlie pictures the children made have been added in today. Seating, willow weaving and sail canopies are all in the pipeline.
We will be reducing the height of the blue fence on the junior playground and backfilling with soil to provide a huge growing space for vegetables and flowers. We will have potato planters and tyres and awhole variety of growing plants. We may be looking for volunteers to help tend them during the holidays.
We need to continue to develop the outside areas in order that we can continue to enjoy the outside spaces we have to further the children in their learning journey........! Get the children out, away from screens and let them play!

Parent Consultations
|
24 February by Adrian Massey |
Parents consultations will be held after school next week on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday details of days and available appointment times are on each class door. We encourage all parents to attend as this is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and their targets.
Should the available time slots not be suitable please contact the class teacher in person or send in a note, or contact Reception by ‘phone and we will be happy to arrange an alternative time.
The Spring Term is the ‘big push’ to hep to move your children on in their learning. It also gives us time to listen to your views on your child’s progress allowing enough time to affect change before they leave their current class. Please do make every effort to attend. The process is only going to be effective if we work in partnership with you. Many thanks. Mr. Massey.

Year 5 & 6 Half Term PDA Challenge
|
11 February by Hannah Ward |
We have organised a half term PDA challenge that Year 5 & 6 children can complete over the half term holiday.
The first task will be to record their eating habits using Excel Mobile on a spreadsheet that they should already have on their handheld device. However, it can be downloaded from the 'Useful Links' section of this website should they need another copy. When the children return to school we can use the data in maths lessons to make graphs, find averages and discuss results.
The second task will be to make a sound recording about their half term break (something they have done, a film they have watched or a book that they have read). We would like this delivered in the form of a 'rap' or read out as a poem. We are hoping to share these recordings by placing them on the school website when they return to school.
To enable this all Year 5 and 6 children will be able to take their handheld device home free of charge. Those parents that normally pay will not need to pay for this week.
Please remember that the devices are fully insured and encourage your child to use it as just another 'learning' device the same as they would treat a book from the library. They are free to use all the other programmes (Sums Online, Word, Notes, GPS, Bluetooth, Media Player, Electronic Book Reader etc) that are available too.
Year 5 & 6 children will be given a help sheet reminding them of some of the key features of their PDA and how to do a sound recording, however a copy of this is also available from the 'Useful Links' page of this website.

New Look Website
|
10 January by Adrian Massey |
|
It has been an unusual week but the work to make BB the School it is continues, even if we are not in the building! I am delighted that you will be reading this piece on our new look website. We are indebted to our Parent Governor, Glyn Buckland for helping us to turn our virtual wish list into a virtual reality! Glyn is always unfazed by our demands and has worked with Miss Ward (ICT technician), Mr Gynn (ICT Co-ordinator) and I to achieve this great new look. You will have access to all the usual favourites on the site with the class galleries, downloadable newsletter and our new feature – BB TV, where we will showcase the good work your children achieve. The whole purpose of the site is to enable you, our parents, extended families, visitors and other interested parties to catch a glimpse of the school day for your children. What better way than daily updated news from all 10 classes? We hope you enjoy the site, feedback is always welcome using the ‘contact us’ button. Please do let us know what you think. It takes an awful lot of work from all the TAs, Teachers, Secretaries and me to make this as good as it is so feedback to tell us it is all worth it helps to drive us on!
