Year 3 & 4 Children get Creative! 23 May
Children displaying their pliiow case creations

This week Year 3 and 4 children have been testing their creativity and practical skills.  They have designed and then made their own pillow case based on the theme of 'Holidays'

Show here are just a few of the fantastic designs that resulted from the project - there was also some great sewing done by both girls and boys.  Well done!

Year 1 & 2 Visist Lobbs Farm 13 May

On Wednesday and Friday last week KS1 popped on their wellies for their trip to Lobbs Farm. At the farm we found out which crops and vegetables are grown in our local area and which ones need to be grown abroad. After that we completed a quiz about different animals and also went on a trailer around the farm to see different crops being grown and some cows and sheep! After lunch we played some games in the barn whilst groups looked at the local produce in Lobbs Farm shop. It was good to get out of the classroom and breathe in some fresh farm air!

Beach Becomes the Classroom for Key Stage 1 Pupils 30 April
 Boys on the beach

Charlestown Beach became the classroom for Classes 3, 4 and 5 last week as they carried out a study of the sea shore. They identified plant and sea life and, having learnt to use binoculars, were also able to identify sea birds.

Inspired by their surroundings, they created art installations using anything that could be found on the beach.

Key Stage 2 Learn Beach Safety 22 April
 RNLI Beach Safety Talk

Key Stage 2 children were delighted to learn all about the RNLI Beach Safety on Tuesday.

They were given a lively talk all about keeping themselves safe on the beach.  They were also shown all the equipment that the lifeguards use when carrying out their jobs.

Now all we need is some beach weather!

Bonjour from Normandy! 11 March

Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have been having a fantastic time in France with visits including the fantastic Mont St Michel and Bayeaux Tapestry.

As they are in Normandy they have also visited DD landing beaches as well as paying a visit to the British cemetry; a very moving experience.

The children have had the chance to try out their language skills by making purchases in a local market.

Pupils enthusiastically welcomed Bilbo the Life Saving dog during Wednesday's visitor assembly.

Bilbo, who weighs more than 11 stone, is a Newfoundland and is an excellent swimmer.

The children were delighted to get the chance to meet him, not just in assembly but later on the playground too.  It was a fantastic way for them to learn more about beach safety.

Pupils Wowed by Science Spectacular! 16 October
On Friday 12th October Sarah, from the University of Bristol, came into our school to deliver a science assembly!  This assembly inspired our children to be excited about Science.  The children were totally engaged by the variety of 'science experiments' brilliantly delivered in a lively, entertaining and educational way.

The highlight for the children was when Sarah explored the effect of liquid nitrogen on everyday objects.  Ask your child what their favourite bit was!

Friday was Dahlicious! 01 October

Bishop Bronescombe was a truly colourful sight on Friday as pupils and staff alike took part in 'Dahlicious Day'.  They dressed up as some of the many wonderful characters created by Roald Dahl in order to raise money for his charity which helps seriously ill children.

Guitars! 25 September

Last Tuesday was a particularly exciting day for us here at BB. Jamie Crowe, a local guitar teacher, came into assembly to share his musical talents with us. The children thoroughly enjoyed his acoustic and electric demonstrations and the were delighted to hear that they could now take up lessons themselves! What makes the prospect even more exciting is the fact that the school already owns 25 guitars and we will be offering to loan these out to children who would like to learn.
See Mrs Parry for more information

Welcome Back! 07 September

I hope that despite the poor weather, you all had a good break. I would like to welcome back all the pupils who have returned and to say a special ‘hello’ to all our new pupils. I hope that you will all be very happy. The schooling that your child receives is very important and I would like to assure you of my determination to provide the highest quality education at Bishop Bronescombe Church of England VA School. I am very much looking forward to leading the school in the future. I also look forward to seeing you in the coming weeks and months. Mr Rushton

End of Year! Summer 2012 24 July
As usual for Bishop Bronescombe it has been another busy and exciting year! We have had changes in both staffing and pupils, the most exciting of which has been the successful appointment of our new Headteacher, who starts in September.

By now you will have received and read your child’s report. We hope you will have found it informative and useful - giving you a snapshot of some of the topics they have covered. Across the school, all children have made good progress and this hard work has rewarded them with some fantastic results. More rewarding for the staff, is to see the development of the children in their class and their excitement and enthusiasm to learn in a safe and happy environment.

We have both thoroughly enjoyed our time as Acting Heads, which has provided us with great leadership experience and lasting memories! We will be resuming our former roles as Assistant Heads and continuing to work alongside each other in KS1 next term. We are thankful for the backing of all the team at BB and more so of yourselves as parents. We have felt well supported by you all and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for entrusting to us the care and education of your children, whom we know are the most precious things to you.

We are now looking forward to the next step in the journey of Bishop Bronescombe and are proud to be part of this in partnership with you, your children and the governors. We also say a sad, but proud farewell to all of our Year 6 children as they move to Secondary School and send our best wishes to them all.

We wish everyone a safe and happy summer and look forward to seeing you all return on Wednesday 5th September.

Happy Holidays!

Amazing day outdoors! 10 July

On Monday 9th July, the whole school walked to Tregrehan Gardens, except for some of the Year 6s who were busy surfing!

Most of the walk is along paths - some of which were very muddy, adding to the fun for the children!

Having had time to explore the gardens we all met by the lake to have an outdoor assembly with Father David.  Sitting on our plastic bags we then enjoyed our picnic before being able to really get stuck in and explore and enjoy our surroundings.

From finding frogs, playing in the stream, to climbing trees and running around, the children had a really fantastic day!

Thank you to Tregrehan Gardens who so kindly allowed us to come and have such a brilliant day.
