Week 5  (16/05/2013)
This week has flown by as we have been sooo busy.
We are using our phonic sounds to write some fantastic sentences.
In Mathematics we have learnt how to calculate addition number sentences.
We are able to retell our class story of Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as play the characters in our role play area. In music, we used different instruments to help us retell the story. Also we have drawn some great pictures from the story and are growing our own beanstalks.
We have planted some more flowers in our garden as well as tomatoe plants and pea seeds. Our potatoes are really growing tall and our apple tree is covered in blossom, we are looking forward to watching the apples grow.
As we have worked really hard this week and the sun shone for us we had a trip to the park which is always lots of fun.
What a great week we have had.

Week 4  (09/05/2013)
We hope you all had a great long weekend, this week has certainly flown by. We wrote a fantastic sentence about our weekend and also learnt a new sound, `oo'
In mathematics, we practised `o'clock' times using our handmade clocks and also have learnt about sharing objects equally.
We are learning a new class story about Jack and the Beanstalk.
Music was lots of fun playing different instruments and singing I am a music man.
We continued to play team games in PE, which we enjoy.
Also this week we have drawn, collaged and played lots of exciting games with our friends.

Week 3  (02/05/2013)
New sounds this week were `igh' and `oa', we then used these sounds in writing sentences.
What's the time Mr Wolf? We looked at different clocks this week and learnt all about o'clock times. We also made our own clocks and found out what we can do in a minute. What can you do in a minute?
The sunshine came out for us, (hooray), so we had a fun trip to the park and enjoyed playing in our outside area.
Our potatoes are growing well and we planted sunflower seeds which the children took home today to look after. We wonder how tall they will grow?

Week 2  (25/04/2013)
We are becoming brilliant readers and writers. This week we have learnt sounds `ee' and `or' and written sentences with these sounds in.
In Mathematics we ordered numbers to 20 and have been practising our 1 more and 1 less than a given number.
Music was lots of fun with the African drums again playing some simple rhythms.
We also continued to play some great team games in PE, including hurdles, skipping and stilt walking.
Also this week we did some fantastic modelling with some cardboard boxes which were turned into castles and space rockets. As well as some lovely paintings.
Lots of bubbles were on our decking with the children seeing who could blow the most bubbles. We really enjoy playing outside, its always lots of fun.

Summer term - week 1  (18/04/2013)
It's great too be back for our final term in Reception. Everyone had lots of fun in the Easter holidays and were keen too share their news to their friends.
In literacy we have continued to learn new phonic sounds ng and ai and then used these sounds to write new sentences.
In Mathematics money has been our topic, focusing on 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins. We played lots of games using these coins including shopping and bingo.
Team games in PE were great fun and we had a noisy time wiith the African drums in Music, (some of the drums were nearly as tall as ourselves.)
Also this week we have enjoyed going on adventures on our new pirate ship and making sandcastles in the BBeebies new sand pit.
What a fantastic busy first week of our Summer term.

Week 11  (27/03/2013)
Wow we have been so busy this week, preparing for Easter and trying to keep warm .
We hope you like our Easter `chick' cards which we enjoyed making, as well as our Easter baskets, complete with yummy chocolate Easter nests.
We produced brilliant story maps of our class story The Little Red Hen and continued making patterns using flying colours.
What a way to finish the week, an egg and spoon race and we got to eat the creme egg after, (yummy).
Our decorated eggs, were fantastic and we enjoyed showing them off to all our friends.
Everyone has continued to make lots of progress especially with their reading and writing, we are so proud of them.
Have a brilliant Easter holiday, (let's hope it warms up a bit for us). We look forward to seeing you all back in the Summer term.

Week 10  (21/03/2013)
We have enjoyed retelling our class story, `The Little Red Hen,' as well as making puppets and masks of the characters.
In Literacy we continued to work on the diagraphs `ch', `sh,' and `th,' and writing our own sentences.
Mathematics this week we have been learning about patterns. We collected different pattern rubbings around our decking and playground as well as making patterns with our toys, potatoe printing and on our computer using flying colours.
Using lots of different painting techniques we have been making a lovely Spring display and a display of The Little Red Hen.
BBeebies eggs have been hatching this week, which has been fascinating too watch, there are now 14 cute fluffy chicks.
The competition is on, both classes planted their potatoe seeds this week, we are going too see who can grow the most potatoes, watch this space too see how they are growing.
Finally Spainish day was lots of fun with salsa dancing and making Havanna punch drinks, as well as getting dressed up.

Week 9  (14/03/2013)
Another busy one!
This week in Literacy we have learnt the digraphs ‘ch’ and ‘sh’ and practised writing sentences. In Numeracy we have been comparing sizes and weights and have used scales to compare items to see which are heavier than or lighter than a banana. We had great fun finding objects in the classroom to weigh.
For Comic Relief we have been watching a film about Robert who is a little boy who lives in Kenya in a slum dwelling. We have looked at the things that are similar to us and the things that are different.
We saw some sun on Thursday afternoon so we went to the park and took a football with us. It was great to play outside.
To raise money for comic relief we have taken part in the whole school sports challenge which involved us having a little run on the treadmill each day. On Friday it was another great excuse to dress up!

Week 8  (08/03/2013)
This week we learnt an important lesson from the story of The Little Red Hen, that we need to work together. We put this into practise by all helping to make bread, we mixed, kneaded and shaped the bread into rolls and took them home to eat.
We now have a lovely new wooden garage, petrol station, rescue station and lots of cars to play with. We have enjoyed whizzing them along the roads on our special carpet in Class 1.
In PE we continued to practise our gymnastic skills as well as playing a fun game called Run to the Hoop which meant choosing a coloured hoop to run to but only one colour would be announced the winner!
In Maths we have been writing numbers to ten and counting objects to match that number and colouring them in.
We have started to learn the parts of a plant and what they need to help them grow. We have measured our daffodil plant so that we can see how much it has grown by next week.
Thursday was World Book Day, we dressed up in costumes inspired by non fiction books and we brought in books for a book swap
Oil pastels were used to draw daffodils on our Mothers Day cards. We hope all you Mums have a wonderful day on Sunday, the children told us about all the things you do for them and came up with some lovely prayers for mums to include in our Prayer Book.

Week 7  (28/02/2013)
We enjoyed seeing all our friends after our half term break and writing about what we did in the holiday.
Our writing of sentences are brilliant, we are using our phonic sounds to write the words and we include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Numeracy we have been learning to recognise numbers and how to write them.
Music was lots of fun we really enjoy singing and in PE we jumped really high with a tuck jump and a jump with half a turn.
This week also saw a delivery of some fantastic new toys including some brilliant wooden blocks which we worked together to build an obstacle course.
Our potatoe seeds have started to grow and we are looking forward to planting them in a few weeks time.
What a fun week we have had in Reception.

Week 6  (14/02/2013)
We have listened to a story called Oliver's Fruit Salad this week which inspired us to make a huge fruit salad for us all to share. Thanks to all the parents that sent in fruit, we had a great selection including plums, apricots, strawberries, pineapples, kiwi, mango and even a dragon fruit!
We all had a go at cutting up the softer fruits and adding them to our big bowl. We all tasted a selection and looked on the globe to see where they had come from.
The weather on monday morning was so lovely we decided to go to the park in the afternoon. Although the sun had gone behind the clouds when we arrived we still had a super time!
In Literacy we have been practising writing more tricky words - 'go' and 'to' .
Last week we were learning our number bonds to 5 and so this week we have been subtracting numbers from 5.
We have learnt two new jumps in PE - a jump with half turn and a tucked jump.
The Valentine's Day Disco was lots of fun, we enjoyed dancing with all our friends.

Week 5  (07/02/2013)
Wow what a busy week we have had. We are all making brilliant progress with our reading and writing. We continued to practise writing sentences and how to spell and write the word `the'.
In Mathematics we have learnt number bonds for 5 and how to write them as number sentences (1 + 4 = 5).
Continuing on our topic of bodies, we have learnt about skeletons, including a song, and then cut out and made our own dancing skeleton with split pins.
In PE we played some team games and had a go at a star jump and a straight jump and in Music we enjoyed singing some songs.
Also this week we have had lots of fun playing with all our friends both inside and outside, making some fantastic models with duplo, wooden bricks and cardboard boxes and playing doctors.

Week 4  (31/01/2013)
Well, we have had another fantastic week here at BB school.
We continued to practise our writing and have written a different sentence each day including 'A duck in Muck' and 'A kid in a hat'. We all did brilliantly at remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Mathematics we are learning about capacity and have experimented with different containers to see how much water they will hold. We made popcorn and saw how the bowl with the kernals wasnt very full but after putting it in the popcorn maker the popcorn filled the bowl. The best part was that after our investigation we all had some to eat!
We all had a go at doing a teddy bear roll in PE, it was quite tricky.
The nicer weather has meant we have managed to play on the decking on the scooters, with the sand, with different containers in the water tray and we even set up our own goals to play a game of football. Inside we have had lots of fun in our role play area which is now a doctors surgery, complete with waiting room and aquarium!

Week 3  (25/01/2013)
Wow we used our phonic knowledge this week to write our first sentences. We all did brilliantly using finger spaces and full stops.
In Mathematics we are learning all about 2d and 3d shapes.
We can now do a tuck roll which we practised in PE this week as well as moving around the hall using parts of our body.
What a noisy music lesson we had, singing lots of songs and then playing some instruments.
Finishing the week with a trip to the doctor's surgery. Thank you to our parent helpers for making this possible.

Spring Term Week 2  (18/01/2013)
This week in handwriting we pracitised j, v, w and y - we are getting so good at correctly holding a pencil.
In mathematics we learnt different ways we could make the numbers 14, 15, and 16 with numicon and counters.
We continued to use different ways of travelling in PE and practised a pencil roll this week. We showed each other our moves.
A new directive play was introduced for tuesdays, we go in groups to different areas such as the role play, the book corner and the creative area which means we get to have a go at various activities aswell as play with different friends.
Another busy week!

Spring term week 1  (11/01/2013)
Happy New Year to you all. It was so lovely to see all the children this week and find out what gifts they have got from Father Christmas.
In handwriting we have practised our letters b, f and l and in Mathematics we are learning to count accurately and recognise digits.
We are also continuing to make great progress with our reading.
In PE we moved around the hall using different parts of our body, learnt some new songs in Music as well as discovering our talking tubs, our new construction area and playing again with all our friends.
It's great to be back to enjoy an exciting new term in Foundation stage

Week 15  (20/12/2012)
Oh what Christmas fun! We have watched Emazdad the Magician, eaten party food with our friends and been to DJ Gynn's disco.
A huge thank you to all our lovely gifts and cards that the children have brought in. We all hope you have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Week 14  (14/12/2012)
We have been busy glittering, gluing and making yummy peppermint creams, what a fun week. The children are enjoying our North Pole and dressing as Santa or a reindeer. Our Classroom is looking really festive with all the decorations the children have made.
Also this week our handwriting was the letters c, k, e, u and we have been doubling in Mathematics.
To end such a fantastic week we selected some lovely gifts in the Secret Santa room, had a visit to Father Christmas and eat a scrummy Christmas dinner. Only 11 more sleeps till Christmas day (yipee!!)

A Great Performance!  (07/12/2012)
We have had a super week and we all performed fantastically in our Nativity making everyone feel very proud!
We continued to practise our handwriting each day and learnt 'm' 'd' 'g' and 'o'. Each day we have pulled an advent cracker and are counting down to Christmas - hooray!

Week 12  (03/12/2012)
Our Nativity play is going really well and we even tried on our outfits this week, everyone looks cute in them and looking forward to performing for yourselves next week.
With Christmas in mind we have continued making cards and stained glass windows, which look lovely in our windows. We even have our Christmas tree up in the classroom, decorated with our Christmas ornaments we made.
Our handwriting this week has been for the letters, t, p, i, n and in Numeracy we have continued to learn about adding.
We have also enjoyed playing with our friends, creating a nativity picture on the interactive whiteboard and building some brilliant castles.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!  (23/11/2012)
We have had a lovely, glittery week making Christmas wreaths, decorations, Christingles and cards. We have continued to practise our Nativity play, singing songs and remembering our lines.
Emazdad came in to teach us about crossing the road safely, we must STOP, LOOK and LISTEN.
In literacy we have been working hard, practising writing the letters 's' and 'a'.

Week 10  (16/11/2012)
This weeks sounds have been y, z, qu and we are becoming brilliant readers.
Money, money, money and how to spend it, is what we are learning in mathematics. We have been practising by buying our own fruit for snack time.
We have had a run through of our Nativity play, which went well and we are really enjoying singing the songs.
Our busy week has also included playing and exploring with our friends, we always have lots of fun and finishing the week in our rainbow colours for Children in need.

Week 9  (09/11/2012)
It was great to be back this week and our classroom has had a great change around and a super new rug with roads on - we love getting the cars out on it and of course sitting on it to learn with Miss Hawke.
We finished our wonderful stars this week by putting lots of glue and tissue paper on them. We also had fun painting fireworks on black paper aswell as on huge sheets of white paper outside.
In numeracy we have learned about the value of different coins and put them in order.
We have learned 'v', 'w' and 'x' sounds in phonics and practised our tricky words.
We have started to learn our songs for our Nativity and are doing brilliantly at remembering the words.

Week 8  (26/10/2012)
Phew! What a busy week we have had -
We have constructed wands out of willow to use in the St Austell torchlight procession.
Father David joined us for a lovely Harvest Festival celebration, we sang the Bendy Banana song and even danced a samba.
We enjoyed sharing our 'me' boxes with the class and asking each other questions about the items.
We have learned new sounds 'f', 'l' and 'ss' and we are getting so good at building words.
We had a visit from Miss Alison, who told us about Operation Christmas Child and how we could help send presents around the world to children who would not normally have anything.
Have a wonderful week and we will see you back on Monday 5th November.

Week 7  (18/10/2012)
In Mathematics we have been learning all about comparing - sizes and lengths and have learnt a new rhyme about 3 different sized ducks.
We are getting brilliant with our phonics and word building and have learnt the phonic sounds for u, r, h and b this week.
PE was lots of fun, exploring different ways to jump. Can you jump like a kangaroo or a frog, we asked the children.
Thanks to our parent helpers and the rain stopping for us, we were able to go for a walk to look at dfferent types of homes near our school. We learnt about bungalows, semi-detached and terrace houses, as well as old and new homes.
Also this week we have continued to enjoy lots of messy play as well as having a brilliant time with our friends.

Literacy   Communication and Language

 

We used actions to help us learn the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. It was great fun taking on the role of the characters and acting out the story. We enjoyed the story so much some of us wanted to draw pictures of the characters.

 

 

We had to use our problem solving and communication skills to order ourselves from the lowest number to the highest.

Mathematics   Understanding the World

 

In our Marvellous Mathematics this week, we have been problem-solving. We had to work with a partner to add up the numbers rolled on a dice. We even explored ways to record our findings in a number sentence. 

 

 

Look how much the potatoes have grown. We have been making sure they get enough water and sunlight.

Physical Development   Expressive art and design

  

We played a fun game called ‘Rabbits’ to warm-up our bodies. We then practised a range of skills including hula hooping, standing long jumps, skipping and throwing and catching. These skills were really tricky but we didn’t give up and tried our best. 

 

 

We retold the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ with chants and instrumental parts added to describe the beanstalk, Jack going up and down it and the giants heavy footsteps.
