'What am I?' has been the basis of our literacy this week. We have listened to many riddles like this and have even created our own riddles in teams. All of our riddles have been based on animals or creatures and our riddles are displayed in the classroom for all to try!

Science  (17/05/2013)
This week we have looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. We started by going on a butterfly hunt around the school pitch and were lucky enough to find 2! We then drew the life cycle in our books and could even relate this process to human life too.

Scooter Training  (17/05/2013)
On Monday we were lucky enough to be visited by Gemma and Brian. They showed us how to inspect our scooters for safety checks, how to glide safely and how to brake in an emergency. We all listened very carefully and our scooter skills really improved from their visit. We hope that now many of Class 4 will be able to 'scoot' to school!

Visit to Lobb's Farm  (10/05/2013)
We had another lovely trip this week to Lobb's Farm. The year 1's went with Class 3 on Wednesday and the year 2's went today with Class 5. Both groups had a great time with Farmer Richard and Farmer Terry who were kind enough to tell us all about their farms. We had a fun trailer ride across the fields to see the cows and sheep. We also looked at a number of differing fruit and vegetables and learnt where they grow. It was a very informative day out for us all!

Circle Time  (03/05/2013)
This week we have been thinking about our 'Special People'. We spoke about why people are important to us and the characteristics that make them so special.

Quick Cricket  (03/05/2013)
On Thursday we took advantage of the good weather and went outside for P.E. We learnt how to play 'Quick Cricket' and what amazing cricketers we have! This was also a fantastic way to learn about team work with our fielders working exceptionally well together.

First Aid Training  (03/05/2013)
This week we have begun the very important task of teaching the children some basic first aid skills. To begin with we have looked at what children should do in the event of an accident and how to call for an ambulance. In pairs, we have acted out scenario's as a good way to practice.

Science  (28/04/2013)
Following our visit to the beach, our science lesson this week was to identify various minibeasts and the habitat in which they live. We divided our minibeasts into land or sea creatures and then drew our own for display in the classroom.

Charlestown Beach visit  (28/04/2013)
What a wonderful day we had at the beach! Our objective was to find and identify various types of seaweed, sea creatures, wild flowers and sea birds. We were very successful in all areas and were able to identify many things from our spotter sheets. After a well deserved break for lunch, we then created some beach art using only natural resources with some lovely results! Thank you to our parent helpers for their assistance on the day, it really is very much appreciated!

Music  (19/04/2013)
We composed our own music for the glockenspiel this week! We began by learning a few basic notes and played some simple tunes as a class. Then we let our creative sides take over and composed our own music! Some of us even played outside in the sun to help us compose using only the notes c, b and d.

P.E.  (19/04/2013)
This week we focussed on agility in P.E. We played lots of fun games which were all designed to test our agility levels. Some of us were more agile than others but we all enjoyed taking part.

Science  (19/04/2013)
In science we have also started a new topic. This half term we will be investigating minibeasts and so on Monday we went for a short minibeast hunt around the school. We used magnifying glasses to help us identify the little insects and recorded our findings on to a sheet.

We have learnt a new class story this week - ' The Magic Orb'. The children have loved learning this story and created some wonderful actions to accompany it. We have drawn story maps and learnt to retell the story to our friends using our own pictures.

This week we have been learning to complete the missing number or symbol from a number sentence - eg, 5 + _ = 10. We used numicon to help us solve the puzzles and, of course, our fingers!

Easter Fun!  (29/03/2013)
On Thursday, Class 4 took part in the whole school 'Egg and Spoon' Race. We all managed to balance our eggs and completed the race with just one broken egg! We also had a wonderful array of decorated eggs for our competition - everything from 'Humpty Dumpty' to spaceships! Thank you all for your amazing efforts.

We had an amazing day today trying all things Spanish! We started by creating a Tapas bar in our class. We tried new types of cheese and chutney to create our Tapas whilst also making some fantastic Gazpacho soup. We also learnt to speak some Spanish with Mrs Horwell and amazed Miss Henshaw by how much we remembered! Mrs H-V taught us some games from Spain and we had great fun trying them out. This afternoon we all learnt to dance Flamenco style! Claudia taught us some basic dance moves and we managed to complete a whole routine - well done Class 4!

Science  (22/03/2013)
We have continued our work on friction this week. Last week we experimented with raising the level of the ramp, and this week we chose alternative surfaces to run our car on. Our surfaces included the table, a rough carpet, the hall floor and the kitchen floor in the wet area. Where do you think the car would run furthest?

Numeracy  (22/03/2013)
We had fun working with a partner solving 'Dicey Problems' this week. We had to add together two rolls of the dice and subtract the third! It was a great way of testing our numeracy skills and we used counters to help us when it became a bit tricky!

Art  (22/03/2013)
We have been studying Spain in all our subjects recently. In art, we have looked at the works of Pablo Picasso and tried to replicate his self-portrait. We have begun our final masterpieces by completing both a crayon and paint self portrait and next week we will combine the two!

Comic Relief  (15/03/2013)
Another big highlight of the week was our triathlon for Comic Relief. All the children took part in some way and some of us even became famous on BBC Spotlight! The whole class looked amazing in their red outfits and we all joined in with the true spirit of Comic Relief. Thank you again for your wonderful support of our charity fundraising.

R.E.  (15/03/2013)
A major highlight of the week was the trip to Truro Cathedral on Thursday. It really was a jam packed day but one which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We took part in lots of Easter based activities in the crypt of the Cathedral we dressed up as Bishops and learnt about the role of those 'special people' and we listened to the Easter Story with the help of 'Riff-Raff' and his friends. A huge thank you to those parents who helped us on the trip!

We looked at measuring length and time this week. We used rulers to help us draw accurate lines in our books. We also used stopwatches to measure time and saw how many starjumps we could do in one minute! How many do you think we could manage?
