Week ending 17th May  (17/05/2013)
We have had another busy week in Class 8 when we have been working hard on our class story ‘The Wizard’s Adventure. We have changed the way we usually record our story in a story map, by every member of the class being in charge of one frame of the story and drawing out that frame. We then put all the pictures together and using good connectives and openers we were able to retell the story. As part of our DT lessons we have begun to make our pillowcases by marking, measuring pinning and tacking them together

Week ending 9th May  (10/05/2013)
This week in literacy we have continued our work on newspapers. We have been identifying and ordering the main details of an event for a recount. On Wednesday we wrote alliterative newspaper headlines to catch the reader’s attention. In geography we have planned out and acted out the climb of Everest and learnt more about what a great achievement it was in 1953 when the equipment was not as sophisticated as today. We have also done more work on 3D shapes.

Week ending 3rd May  (03/05/2013)
As part of our numeracy lessons this week we pretended to be secret agents. We had to carry out a series of number sentences in a calculator and using the answers obtained these corresponded to letters in a secret code. From this we worked out the secret code word! All this helped us to use calculators correctly. Not only learning but having fun as well! We have also been looking at nets this week and how some flat shapes can be folded into 3D shapes.
Continuing our work on mountains in geography we have been looking at the essential equipment mountaineers need when they climb in difficult places.

Week ending 26th April  (26/04/2013)
This week we have been learning to accurately measure mass in Kilograms and grams using different types of weighing scales. We have also been looking at thermometers and how to measure temperature with those.

Week ending 19th April  (19/04/2013)
Welcome back after the Easter holidays! The weather was dry and sunny on Monday so part of our numeracy lesson was conducted outside. We were learning to place decimals to two decimal places on a number line, so the children were each given a number and were asked to stand in the correct place and we soon got the idea of how to order decimals!
We hope you received your invitation to come to Class 8 Celebration Day. The invitations were all individually made and coloured by the children.
On a more serious note we had a talk by the RNLI about beach safety, this is particularly important as we live so close to the sea and we want to keep everyone safe on the beach.

Also this week we have been busy in numeracy continuing our work on 2D shapes and then looking at decimals and rounding numbers. Merry Christmas  (21/12/2012)
This week has been very hectic but very enjoyable. In the middle of the week, some children visited Penrice for a French experience morning where they played games in French and then took part in a French nativity. On Thursday we had a morning of Christmas activities, we made origami baskets, then did some Christmas baking, making mince pies, strawberry creams and Christmas pizzas. Another great week of learning at Bishop Bronescombe
